About the business division:
Discover the world of financial markets and begin your career in our Fixed Income & Currencies (FIC) division. We pride ourselves on being the risk manager of choice for our clients, helping them to achieve their goals and maximise results. We bring together a long-established sales force with outstanding trading, financing, and structuring expertise.

You’ll be part of a team that provides innovative solutions to clients across Foreign Exchange, Rates, Emerging Markets and Credit. With a constantly evolving client offering our experience helps us to respond to market trends, deliver for our clients and make a difference in the world.

Division specifics about the apprenticeship role:
As an apprentice, you’ll be provided with the training, study support and on-the-job coaching to accelerate your career. With study support towards a degree in Applied Finance and professional qualifications (e.g., CISI/IMC, CFA). Apprentices will also be supported by a mentor.

Apprentices will spend approximately 20% of their time studying as part of the apprenticeship scheme (at the end of year 2, leading to Level 4 investment operations specialist apprentice award and end of year 4, leading to Level 6 financial services apprentice award) in addition to assessments provided by practitioner qualification providers (CISI, IMC, CFA). Furthermore, apprentices will gain a degree in BSc (Hons) Applied Finance at the end of the 4 years subject to passing all required assessments.

Your rotational experience in FIC will give you the opportunity to work in different teams and have a varied role. Your tasks might include industry research, company performance monitoring, pricing products for traders, preparing financial data analysis, pitching trades to the team, participating in client calls, or refining the way we do forecasts. In addition, you will be involved in live deals, exploring new private financing & lending opportunities, preparing marketing materials for clients, and reviewing deal pricing and structure comparisons.

What we look for:
We recruit students and graduates who are intelligent and adaptable with excellent communication skills. Even though good levels of numeracy are important for some roles, you won’t necessarily need a formal mathematical or financial background. Our comprehensive training programmes will give you all the technical knowledge you’ll need to build a career with us.

Please note that to apply for our 2024 Apprenticeship Programme you must graduate from sixth form (school, academy or college) in 2024 or have graduated in the last 12 months (i.e., in 2023).

Offers will be conditional on acceptance to the Applied Finance degree programme at Queen Mary so we encourage all applicants to ensure they meet the minimum entry requirements (e.g. AAA at A-Level including A in Maths).
