Network Technician

  • Company: BT
  • Location: Ipswich
  • Closing Date: 30-06-2022

Description

We’ve always been an organisation with purpose; to use the power of communications to make a better world. You can trace this back to our beginning as pioneers of the world’s first telecommunications company. At our heart we’re a technology company with research and innovation in our bones and a desire to be personal, simple, and brilliant for our customers – those are the values we live by whilst also creating an inclusive working environment where people from all backgrounds can succeed.

As a Physical Infrastructure and Radio Network Engineer you’ll be accountable for the introduction and complex diagnostics of new physical networks, both within the data centre and in the radio environment. This includes network upgrades from an engineering and test perspective.

Some of the key responsibilities are to test new features and hardware for BT Wi-Fi, particularly customer deployments and edge networks. You’ll help maintain infrastructure and facilities in working order and solve problems that affect WIFI’s physical estate. On top of that you’ll be doing physical installation, cabling of lab and production hardware, and report back on testing and the installation of work carried out. We’re looking for people to be “service obsessed” in identifying problems with networks, deliveries, or equipment that they’ll work with.

We don’t expect you to know how to do all this right away. We’ll offer you the training and support, so that by the end of your Apprenticeship you’ll be an expert in your field.

This job is available in the Technology part of our business.

About the apprenticeship you’ll study for

As a Network Technician, you’ll study for a Level 3 apprenticeship, called Information Communication Technology (ICT).

  • Your apprenticeship will last for 18 months.
  • You’ll spend a minimum of 20% of your time learning and studying.

Entry requirements

You’ll need to achieve five GCSEs at grades 4 – 9 (GCSE C or above), including English Language and Maths.  Equivalent qualifications are accepted.
