You’ll also benefit from work-based learning in our operational districts, allowing you to see how your studies relate to real life projects.

A great alternative to university, you’ll do a nationally recognised qualification while gaining unique work experiences. With excellent training opportunities, varied career paths and secure employment, this programme will kick start your career in an enduring industry, allowing you to set the foundations for your future.

As a Power Engineering Apprentice, you’ll enjoy a range of benefits including:

  • Starting salary of £18,500
  • A generous pension scheme where we’ll double match your contributions up to 10%;
  • A broad range of flexible benefits including share incentive plans, employee discounts, charity matched funding and many, many more.
  • On completion of your programme, you’ll continue your career as a Project Co-ordinator, with a starting salary of £31,238, while you build your experience to progress to become a Project Engineer.

What to Expect

Working alongside our craft and engineering workforce, you’ll assist them in the operation, maintenance and construction of our network. You’ll have the opportunity to get involved in some of our most exciting projects and make a real-world difference in the fight against climate change. Right now, we’re working hard to upgrade our network to make it more efficient and sustainable for our customers, communities and stakeholders as we strive to achieve Net Zero. You’ll be involved in delivering connections and upgrades to the network to support electrification of transport and heat and renewable generation. From Smart Grids to renewables connections, our industry is going through unprecedented levels of innovation and change so there’s never been a better time to join us.
