Women into Home Building programme
Explore a career in site management
Designed by the home building industry, this programme introduces women to a career in site management.
During the programme you will learn what working in the home building industry looks like, attending training, insight sessions, and a two-week work placement. You will gain hands-on experience, build industry knowledge, and connect with potential employers.
The programme is an HBF initiative, delivered by Pathway CTM and in partnership with UK home builders.

As the programme enters its fourth year, it has increased the number of placements and added an additional role. The programme will now offer Building Inspector placements with NHBC alongside its usual site management placements.
The programme involves:

Insight and training
The programme begins with a week of online training and insight to equip you with essential knowledge, including health and safety and modern methods of construction. You’ll hear from role models who have previously taken part in the programme or currently work in the industry.

Hands-on work experience
You will be matched to a home building site by your location, where you will take part in a two-week work placement, building valuable experience and connecting with industry professionals.

Support covering expenses
We know travel or childcare costs can be a barrier, so we’ll work with you to create a plan and help cover your costs.
How to apply to the Women into Home Building Programme
We welcome applications from all parts of the community, including career returners, career changers, women already working in the industry, and those looking for a fresh challenge.
All candidates must:
- Have a valid right to work in the UK and provide evidence of this at application stage
- Be aged 18 or over
- Have the legal right to drive in the UK, and access to a vehicle for the full three-week programme
- Have achieved a Maths and English GCSE Grade 4 or C and above (or equivalent)
- Be available for the full three-week programme, including online insight and training sessions and a two-week work placement, running from 5 May to 22 May 2026.

What does a career in Site Management look like?
A Site Manager is responsible for managing the construction of a development, ensuring the site programme is planned, delivered and effectively monitored on a daily basis and that health and safety, quality, customer care, and cost targets are met.
As a Site Manager, no two days will be the same. You’ll liaise with architects, surveyors, suppliers and the building trades to ensure a project is on track and there are enough staff, machinery and materials to get the job done. If you like project planning and leading a team, one of the most varied and exciting opportunities is in site management.
Salaries for site manager roles can vary depending on location and the size of the site. Salaries can range from:
- £18,000 to £25,000 for a Trainee Assistant Site Manager.
- £25,000 to £37,000 for a Trained Assistant Site Manager.
- Up to £60,000 for an experienced Site Manager.
- In excess of £75,000 for a Senior or Chartered Site Manager.
